This policy explains what personal data Walking Foolio collects when you visit walkingfoolio.com, buy from our shop, sign up for our newsletter or contact us, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it.
1. Who we are
Walking Foolio is operated by Caseyflies Media, P.O. Box 731124, San Jose, CA 95173, USA. We are the “controller” of your personal data. For any privacy question or request, email walkingfoolio@gmail.com.
2. What we collect and why
Orders
When you buy from the shop we collect your name, billing and shipping address, email, phone number (optional), the items ordered and payment status. We need this to take payment, produce and ship your order, handle returns and meet our tax and accounting obligations. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)). If you create an account, we also store your login details and order history.
Newsletter
If you tick the consent box and subscribe, we store your email address to send you Walking Foolio stories, videos and shop news. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email.
Contact form
When you message us we collect your name, email, topic and message, and use them only to reply. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering enquiries, or steps you ask us to take before a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f)). We do not store your IP address with form submissions.
Comments
If you comment on a Journal article we store the name, email and (optional) website you enter, and your comment. Your email is never published. Comments are checked for spam on our own server. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a public discussion (Art. 6(1)(f)).
Statistics and advertising (only with your consent)
With your consent, we measure how the site is used (Jetpack Stats by Automattic) and use advertising and conversion tools from Google and Snapchat to show relevant ads and measure sales. These tools only load after you allow them in the cookie banner, and you can change your choice at any time via “Manage consent”. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and the ePrivacy rules). See our Cookie Policy for details.
Security and server logs
Our web host records technical data (IP address, browser, pages requested, time) in server logs to keep the site secure and working. Legal basis: legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)). Logs are kept for up to 60 days. Login attempts to our admin area are also checked by Jetpack Protect (Automattic) to block automated password-guessing attacks.
3. Who we share it with
We only share personal data with service providers who process it on our behalf under a data processing agreement, or where you have asked us to:
- Printful — produces and ships your order (name, address, phone, items).
- Our payment processor — processes your card payment securely. We never see or store your full card details.
- Mailchimp (Intuit) — sends the newsletter.
- Automattic — WooCommerce Tax calculates sales tax from your address; Jetpack protects our login pages against automated attacks and, with your consent, provides site statistics.
- Google and Snapchat — advertising and conversion measurement, only with your consent.
- YouTube — videos are shown as a preview image; nothing loads from YouTube until you press play, and then we use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced (no-cookie) player.
- Crack-Ajax Web Technologies — hosts and maintains the website, on servers operated by IONOS Inc. in Pennsylvania, USA.
- Authorities and advisers — where the law requires it (e.g. tax records).
We do not sell your personal data.
Our site links to Walking Foolio on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, X, Bluesky and Snapchat. These are plain links: nothing is loaded from those platforms until you click one, and once you are on their site, their own privacy policies apply.
4. International transfers
Walking Foolio is based in the United States and our website is hosted in the US, so the personal data you give us is processed there. Where our service providers process it (in the US or elsewhere), we rely on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework for certified providers, or on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
5. How long we keep it
- Orders and invoices: at least 7 years, as required by US tax law, and 10 years for records of sales to EU customers where EU VAT rules require it.
- Customer accounts: deleted after 24 months without activity.
- Unpaid, failed or cancelled orders: deleted after 30 days.
- Contact form messages: deleted after 12 months.
- Newsletter sign-ups: held on our site for 90 days, and in Mailchimp until you unsubscribe.
- Comments: for as long as the article is published, unless you ask us to remove them. Spam is deleted after 7 days.
- Consent choices (cookie banner): 12 months, after which we ask again.
6. Cookies
We use a small number of necessary cookies (for example to keep items in your cart and to remember your cookie choice). Statistics and advertising cookies are only set if you consent. Full details are in our Cookie Policy.
7. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access your data, correct it, have it deleted, restrict or object to its use, receive it in a portable format, and withdraw consent at any time (without affecting processing before the withdrawal). To use any of these rights, email walkingfoolio@gmail.com; we will reply within one month.
You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority, in particular in the EU country where you live or work.
8. Children
The shop and newsletter are not intended for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
9. Changes
We will update this policy when our practices change, and show the date of the latest version at the top.
